Applying for an Indian passport is a simple and well-structured process managed by the Ministry of External Affairs through the Passport Seva system. Applicants must first complete the online application form on the official Passport Seva website, where they provide personal details, address information, and select the type of passport service required (fresh passport, reissue, or tatkaal). After submitting the form and paying the applicable fee online, the applicant can choose a nearby Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) for further processing.
Once the application is submitted, booking an appointment is mandatory to visit the selected PSK or POPSK. On the appointment date, applicants must carry original documents along with self-attested photocopies for verification. At the center, biometric data, photographs, and signatures are captured digitally, making the process quick and transparent. After successful verification, the application is processed for police verification, if required, and the passport is dispatched to the applicant’s registered address within the stipulated time.
