How to Check Government Exam Results and Answer Keys

Updated 03 Jun 2026 Β· Sarkari Core

After an exam, two things matter most: the answer key, which lets you estimate your score, and the result, which confirms whether you have qualified. Understanding how each is released β€” and how to use the objection window β€” helps you track your progress with confidence.

How to check your result

  1. Visit the official website of the board or department that held the exam.
  2. Open the "Result" link for your recruitment.
  3. Enter your roll number / registration number and date of birth or password.
  4. View your result, then download and print the scorecard or merit list for your records.

Results are often published as a PDF merit list of roll numbers, or as an individual scorecard you log in to see. Near release time the site can be slow due to heavy traffic β€” be patient and try again rather than using unofficial links.

Understanding answer keys

Most exams release the answer key in two stages:

  • Provisional answer key: released soon after the exam. You can compare it with your answers to estimate your score.
  • Objection / challenge window: if you believe an answer is wrong, you can raise an objection during a short window β€” usually with supporting proof and sometimes a small fee per question.
  • Final answer key: released after objections are reviewed. The result is prepared on the basis of this final key.

How to estimate your score

Using the answer key and your recorded responses (or response sheet, if provided):

  • Count the questions you answered correctly and multiply by the marks per question.
  • Subtract negative marks for wrong answers, if the exam has negative marking.
  • This gives an estimated raw score β€” helpful, but the official result is final.

What "cut-off" and "normalisation" mean

  • Cut-off marks are the minimum marks needed to qualify, and differ by category. They depend on vacancies, number of candidates and difficulty.
  • Normalisation is used when an exam is held in multiple shifts, to fairly adjust for differences in difficulty between shifts.

After the result

If you qualify, the next stage may be a further exam (Tier 2/Mains), physical test, skill test, interview or document verification, depending on the recruitment. Keep checking the official website for the next notification, and keep your documents ready for verification.

Always rely on the official website for your result and answer key β€” avoid screenshots or links shared on social media, which are often fake or outdated.
