Mistake in Your Government Job Form? Correction Window and Fee Payment Problems
Updated 11 Oct 2026 Β· Sarkari Core
You submitted the form and then noticed your father's name is misspelt. Or the fee was deducted from your account but the portal still says "Payment pending". These are two of the most stressful moments of applying for a government job. This guide explains what you can fix, how, and when it is too late.
Part 1: Correcting mistakes in a submitted application
Is there a correction window?
Most large recruiting bodies β SSC, RRB, UPSSSC, BPSC, IBPS and others β now open a correction window (also called "modification window" or "edit window") for a few days after the last date of application. Its dates are announced in the notification or as a separate notice on the official website.
- Some bodies allow corrections free; others charge a correction fee (for example, a fixed amount for the first correction and more for a second).
- Some fields usually cannot be changed even in the correction window β commonly your registration details such as name, date of birth, email and mobile number, which are tied to your registration.
- Changes made in the correction window replace your earlier entries. Recheck everything before you submit again.
Mistakes and what to do
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Spelling of name / parent's name | Use the correction window if this field is open. If locked, keep proof (10th certificate) ready and raise it at document verification; minor spelling slips are often accepted with an affidavit. |
| Wrong category selected | Correct it in the correction window. After that, a category change is usually not allowed β and claiming a category you cannot prove leads to rejection. |
| Wrong exam centre / city preference | Usually editable in the correction window. |
| Wrong photo or signature | Usually editable in the correction window. Use our photo and signature resizers to meet the size rules. |
| Wrong date of birth | Often locked. Contact the recruiting body's helpline in writing with proof; if not corrected, your form may be rejected. |
| Wrong marks / percentage | Correct in the window. Wrong marks found at verification can cancel your candidature. |
| No correction window announced | Some bodies allow you to submit a fresh application and consider only the latest one; others treat multiple applications as grounds for rejection. Read the notification's rule on multiple applications before doing this. |
How to use a correction window
- Watch the official website's notices after the last date β correction windows are short, often 2β3 days.
- Log in with your registration number and password.
- Open the "Correction / Modify Application" link, change only what you need and re-check all fields.
- Pay the correction fee if one applies.
- Submit, then download and save the revised application β this is your proof.
Part 2: Fee payment problems
Money deducted, but status shows "pending" or "failed"
This happens when the bank debits your account but the confirmation does not reach the recruitment portal in time. What to do:
- Don't pay again immediately. Wait a few hours β many portals update the status automatically once the bank confirms.
- Check the portal's "Payment status" / "Verify payment" option, if it has one.
- If the status is still failed after 24β48 hours, the amount is usually refunded automatically to your account within a few working days. Then pay again, well before the fee deadline.
- Keep a screenshot of the bank debit and the transaction ID (UTR / reference number) in case you need to contact the helpline.
Avoid payment problems in the first place
- Don't wait for the last day. Portals and payment gateways slow down sharply in the final hours.
- Note that the last date for fee payment may be a day or two after the last date for the form β but don't rely on it.
- Use a payment method that works reliably for you: UPI, debit card, net banking, or an offline challan where offered.
- Don't close the browser or press "back" while the payment is processing.
- After paying, download the fee receipt and confirm the application status shows "fee paid" / "submitted".
Fee exemptions
Many recruitments waive the fee for women, SC/ST, PwD and ex-servicemen candidates; some states also waive or reduce it for their own reserved-category candidates. If you are exempt, the portal skips the payment step after you select your category β so select it correctly.
Before you click "Final Submit"
- Compare every field with your 10th certificate and marksheets.
- Check your photo and signature in the preview.
- Confirm category, exam centre choices and post preferences.
- Save the preview as a PDF and read it once more after a break.
