Government Jobs After 10th, 12th, ITI and Graduation: Which Exams to Target

Updated 11 Oct 2026 · Sarkari Core

"Which government jobs can I apply for with my qualification?" is the first question most aspirants ask. This guide groups the major recruitments by the minimum qualification they require — 10th, 12th, ITI or graduation — so you can see at a glance which exams to prepare for.

A higher qualification never stops you applying for a post that needs a lower one: a graduate can apply for a 10th-level post too. What matters is that you meet the minimum qualification and the age limit.

Jobs after ITI

An ITI certificate in a relevant trade opens technical posts that 10th or 12th alone does not:

  • RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) — 10th plus ITI in trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Mechanic (Diesel), Wireman and others.
  • RRB Technician — Technician Grade III posts in railway workshops and sheds.
  • Railway apprenticeships — every Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) and many production units take apprentices. Selection is usually on a merit list of 10th and ITI marks, without an exam, and apprentices receive a stipend.
  • PSU apprenticeships and jobs — NTPC, BHEL, IOCL, ONGC, power and defence PSUs regularly recruit ITI apprentices and technicians.
  • Ordnance and defence establishments — tradesman and technical posts.

An apprenticeship is training, not a permanent job, but it gives a recognised certificate (NAC) and in railways a share of Group D vacancies is reserved for course-completed act apprentices.

How to choose where to start

  1. Shortlist by qualification and age. Check the upper age limit including any age relaxation you are entitled to.
  2. Group exams with a similar syllabus. SSC CHSL, SSC CGL Tier I and RRB NTPC share most of their reasoning, maths, English and general awareness topics. Preparing for one prepares you for the others.
  3. Check physical standards early for police, forces and Agniveer posts — height, chest and running standards are strict and take months to build.
  4. Register once where you can. Some states, such as UP (UPSSSC), use a one-time registration and a preliminary eligibility test whose score is used for several later recruitments.
  5. Keep your documents ready so you never miss a short application window — see our document checklist.
